The short version

Who we are

AYF Games is run by Are You Faster CIC (AREYOUFASTER CIC), company number 16536715, registered office Unit 82a, James Carter Road, Mildenhall, IP28 7DE. We decide how your information is used. Email games@areyoufaster.com about anything on this page.

Playing games

You do not sign up to play. We keep these in your browser, not on our computers:

Kept in your browserWhy
Your settings (theme, text size, motion, contrast, sound, play counting)So the site looks and works the way you chose.
Game saves, such as best scoresSo a game remembers where you were.
A copy of the public site information (sessions, featured games), for five minutesSo pages load quickly.
A note of the games you have started in this visitSo each is counted once. Removed when you close the tab.

We use no cookies. You can clear all of this at any time in your browser's settings.

Anonymous counts

If "Count my plays" is on in Settings, we add one to a few counts: a game started (per game, per day), and, each month, the first-access form opened and a "Design your game" or "Book a place" link used. A count is only a number. It says nothing about you: no name, no device, no address. Turn it off in Settings and nothing is counted.

The first-access list

If you ask for first access to a studio session, we keep your email address, the name you give us if you give one, where you would come to, who it is for, your agreement, and the date. We use this only to tell you about the Are You Faster Games Studio. We keep it for 12 months from when you join, or until you ask us to remove you, whichever is sooner. We never share it or sell it.

Organisations

If you get in touch for an organisation on the Get involved page, we keep the organisation's name, your name and email, what kind of organisation it is, what you would like to do, where you are, anything you write to us, your agreement, and the date. We use this only to talk to you about working with AYF Games. We keep it for 12 months from when you send it, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever is sooner. We never share it or sell it.

Studio accounts

If you make an account in the Are You Faster Games Studio to design games with others, send us a game or test one, the Studio privacy notice explains what we keep, who sees it and for how long.

Reporting a problem

If you report a problem with a game, we keep the game, the reason, what you wrote, and your email if you give one. We remove your email when the report is closed, and delete closed reports after six months.

Where it is kept, and who helps us

The site and the forms run on Google Firebase. Form entries are stored in Google's data centre in London. When you send a form, Firebase gives your browser a random sign-in number, kept only while the page is open. We store it with the time of your last form and the form it sent, so the same browser cannot send a flood of forms. Google delivers the pages and handles your IP address to do so; we do not see it. Studio session bookings are taken on a separate booking site, which holds your booking, and we delete booking details three months after the session.

Our reason for using it

For the first-access list and organisations, your agreement, which you can take back at any time. For reports, our legitimate interest in keeping the games safe.

Young people

The first-access list and Studio accounts are for adults. A parent or carer can join the list for a young person they look after. Playing needs no details from anyone.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email games@areyoufaster.com and we reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we have used your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
