Are You Faster Games Studio
Design your game in the Studio, then build the real thing with us at a free studio session in Worcester or Birmingham. You don't need to know how to code.
Make it in the Studio
Start a board for your game idea. The Studio asks questions that help you shape it, and you can add cards for anything else you think of. Work on it with friends and send it to us when it's ready. You need a free account, for people aged 18 and over.
What you can make with us
Design any game you can imagine, as long as it plays in a web browser: chess, card games, racing, puzzles, battles, idle games, stories or something nobody has made yet.
If it's bigger than we can build, we'll make a simpler first version with you, or tell you why we can't build it.
A browser game needs nothing installed: anyone with the link can play it. Every game starts as a first version you can play, then grows as people test it.
- Today
Games that play in a web browser, from a one-screen game to a bigger 2D game with levels. Simpler games also play on phones and tablets.
- Next
More complex browser games: bigger worlds and more going on at once.
- Later
Apps you download from the App Store or Google Play.
Not yet: online play with other people, or games that use the microphone or camera.
Studio sessions
No sessions are open for booking right now. Get first access and we'll email you first when the next one opens.
Things to print
- Design worksheet: the Studio's questions on paper, with a page to draw your game. There is a large-print version too.
- Idea Cards: 48 cards to start a game idea from when you're stuck.
- Playtest cards: for the people who try your game, so you hear what was fun and what confused them.
From your idea to a published game
- Design. In the Studio, on your own or with friends.
- Studio session. Three hours. You direct; the session lead builds with you. You make the art and sound and decide the changes.
- Publish. Two to three weeks, with your agreement. We tidy it, check it and put it on AYF Games with your credit.
- Keep going. Your choice. Come back to another session, or take it further on your own.
What we'll ask you, and what we won't
A Studio account needs your email address and a Studio name, and you confirm you are 18 or over. If you want first access to a studio session, we ask for an email address, where you'd come to and who it's for, and keep it for 12 months. We never ask for your address or your phone number, and we never share what you tell us. See our privacy notice and the Studio privacy notice.
Already making games?
You can send us a small web game you've made. We check every game before it goes live, so it takes a couple of weeks. How to send a game
From an organisation?
You can host, commission or sponsor a studio session, or send people to one. Get involved
Questions
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You design the game and make the choices; the session lead builds it with you. If you'd like to try some code yourself, say so.
Who can come?
Adults aged 18 and over for now. If you're asking for a young person, get first access for them; we're working out sessions for younger people.
What does it cost?
Nothing. Studio sessions are free.
What happens to my design?
It is kept with your Studio account. Only the people on your project, and AYF, can see it.
Will my game be published?
Only if you want it to be, and once it passes our checks.
